Duration: 30 min.
Shelter is a portrait of modern relationship between the human and the nature. It’s a metaphorical transition from industrial society back to agrarian one where it all started, a return back to the Mother Nature in search for escape during the crisis. The performance features an attempt to hide away in a cozy cocoon from the panic and uncertainty, where we found ourselves in the harsh time of pandemic.
Varvara is standing wrapped into a thick, 40-kilo braid, made of linen, and singing piercingly, alternating her voice to a bird’s singing or one of a mourner. At the end of the performance she cuts the braid off and throws away as a symbol of impossibility of returning back.
